I come from a state so Blue that it was one of only two states to vote for Jimmy Carter in his bid for a second term (not even Carter's own state did that).
And talk about party affiliaton! In 2002, I watched as Fox reported a GOP sweep...and then our state...voting Democratic as usual...including voting for a dead woman who the voters KNEW that because she couldn't serve, we'd have to fork over an additional 3.5 MILLION DOLLARS to hold a second election for her seat (among her party). The Dems party leader called it a 3.5 million dollar "memorial". And the people bought it...geez.
But despite this lopsided party politics, in 2004, when ALL those under the Republican banner felt it was more important to keep the Dems from holding the purse strings to the war on terror than what Bush and the GOP DIDN'T give them...for the first time in 40 years, my state was in "danger" of voting Red.
Now, the Reaganites, Buchananites, and Libertarians are going to do what Conservatives NEVER do...cut and run...from politics and who will control a nation at war.
